After the commissioning of waste-to-energy plants built by Chinese partners, Uzbekistan will become the first country in Central Asia to practice waste-to-energy recycling, Podrobno.uz correspondent reports.

This statement was shared by Tom Shi, vice president of the Chinese company Shanghai SUS Environment, which entered the waste-to-energy market in Uzbekistan in 2024.

Shi also said that as part of the expansion of projects, Shanghai SUS Environment plans to invest about one billion dollars in the waste recycling sector.

In addition, he assured of practical support for a new direction for our country. In particular, Chinese partners are ready to take part in training personnel, conducting research work with local universities and specialized organizations, as well as jointly developing regulatory documents related to legislation.

Let us recall that the memorandum of cooperation in the development and implementation of waste-to-energy projects with Shanghai SUS Environment was signed in May 2024.
