President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev spoke at the Abu Dhabi Sustainable Development Week summit, the press service of the head of state reports .
In his speech, the leader of Uzbekistan noted that today the diversification of energy sources and a radical reduction in the share of hydrocarbons among them are the main conditions for mitigating the effects of climate change, ensuring sustainable development and global security.

“The strategic goal of the New Uzbekistan is to ensure environmental sustainability and economic growth through the transition to a resource-saving, “green” development model. That is why 2025 has been declared the Year of Environmental Protection and the “Green” Economy in Uzbekistan. We have developed a long-term Low-Carbon Development Strategy and a National Green Financing Program. In the next five years, we will increase the “green” components in investment projects to 50%,” the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan said.

Among the President’s statements:

We have developed a long-term Low Carbon Development Strategy and a National Green Financing Programme.

In the next five years, we will increase the “green” components in investment projects to 50 percent.

We will introduce national systems for monitoring greenhouse gas emissions and trading emission quotas. By 2030, we intend to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 35 percent and continually increase this figure.

Within the framework of the “Yashil Makon” program, at least 30 percent of urban areas in the country will be greened. We are also systematically working to cover 100% of our agriculture with water-saving technologies.

During his speech, the head of Uzbekistan also noted that over the past 5 years, almost $20 billion in foreign investment has been attracted to the country’s energy sector, and modern energy capacities with a capacity of 9.6 gigawatts have been commissioned. In particular, 14 solar and wind power plants with a capacity of 3.5 gigawatts have been created, as well as 2 energy storage systems with a capacity of 300 megawatts.

“Currently, more than 50 major projects worth over $26 billion are being implemented together with foreign partners to produce a total of 24 gigawatts of electricity. By 2030, we plan to increase the share of renewable energy sources in our country to 54%. Today, “green” development in Uzbekistan has been raised to the level of a nationwide movement. We intend to further strengthen regional cooperation in this area and turn Central Asia into one of the centers for the development of a “green” economy and “clean energy,” the president said.

He noted that Uzbekistan has taken the first steps to revive the Great Silk Road through energy connectivity, and the recently signed multilateral agreement with Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan within the framework of “COP-29” will provide an opportunity to export “green” energy to Europe.
He also added that the UAE is our reliable and strategic partner in the field of “green” energy. In recent years, the investment portfolio with the Emirates has exceeded $26 billion. Renewable energy projects are the driving force in it.

“Together with today’s organizer of the global summit, the Masdar company, we have commissioned 5 power generation facilities with a total capacity of 1.5 gigawatts. In addition, 3 projects will be implemented to create generating capacities of 1.6 gigawatts, and energy storage systems with a capacity of about 520 megawatt-hours will be built. We are implementing similar projects together with other leading companies from the Emirates, as well as partners from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and China,” the president emphasized.

We are interested in jointly realizing the enormous potential of Central Asia in the field of solar, hydro and wind energy, as well as the production of “green” hydrogen.
According to preliminary calculations, Uzbekistan alone has the potential to produce 500 gigawatts of solar, 100 gigawatts of wind and 10 gigawatts of hydroelectric power.
Our region is rich in huge reserves of uranium and other important strategic raw materials. In this direction, we are ready to provide our foreign partners with the most favorable conditions.
