In April of this year, it was announced that Kazakhstan would participate in the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), dedicated to climate finance. Managing Director of Zhasyl Damu JSC, Advisor to the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Saken Kalkamanov told a correspondent of the Kazinform agency about the country’s preparations for the event.

— This year, for the first time in many years, Kazakhstan is presenting its pavilion at the global climate conference COP29. Azerbaijan, as a fraternal and partner republic, receives our support, and we, like other Central Asian countries and Turkic states, are participating in this event, — he noted.

According to him, the Kazakhstan pavilion will occupy 150 square meters and will include:

  • a zone for demonstrating achievements in the field of ecology;
  • conference room for panel discussions, sessions, presentations and side events;
  • a negotiation room where memorandums will be signed with international companies, banks and partners to achieve sustainable development goals.

— In general, the exhibition is aimed at reducing the greenhouse effect and improving the ecology in the world, with special attention being paid to the Central Asian and Caspian regions. Heads of state, leaders of the ministries of ecology and other government agencies will try to find solutions to accumulated environmental problems and determine further steps to overcome them, — he added.

Each day will be dedicated to a separate topic: finance and ecology, biodiversity, agriculture and other issues related to ecology.

Kazakhstan will present several initiatives, the details of which are still at the approval stage at the level of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the UNFCCC member states.

Among the most interesting initiatives is a new project for the production of “green” hydrogen in the Mangistau region.

— The construction of the enterprise in Mangistau region is already planned and we will present a model of this project. This is one of our most striking projects, — noted S. Kalkamanov.

Every day, the pavilion will host about 15 events, including a tasting of organic products from Kazakhstan, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture.

The opening of the pavilion is scheduled for November 12 and it will be open until November 22.
