Signing of the protocol on the commencement of work at the construction site of the future small-capacity nuclear power plant (SSNP) in Uzbekistan
“Today’s signing marks the transition to active work on the implementation of the first SNPP in Uzbekistan and will allow us to begin direct work on the construction site in the near future,” said Otabek Amanov, Director of the Directorate for the Construction of the Nuclear Power Plant at the Uzatom Agency.
“The protocol signed today confirms the fact of fulfillment of the primary conditions in terms of regulatory and financial obligations of the parties. Rosatom’s engineering division is beginning to actively develop documentation to obtain a license for the placement of the SNPP and survey work at the construction site,” said Pavel Bezrukov, Director of NPP Construction Projects in Central Asia at JSC ASE.
Preliminary work on the ASMM project began in the summer – in June, the first Headquarters for the construction was held at the site of the future nuclear power plant, where priority tasks were determined, the implementation of which will allow work to begin within the scheduled time frame.
At the end of August, work began on creating a shift camp for the builders of the future nuclear power plant. This is the first step in the traditional comprehensive development of the territory of the NPP presence – cultural, educational projects, medical organizations will appear in the region, and the settlement will attract people to live, industrial companies and commercial organizations – to work.
For information:
The contract, signed on May 27, 2024, provides for the construction of a small nuclear power plant in the Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan according to a Russian design with a total capacity of 330 MW (6 reactors of 55 MW each). JSC Atomstroyexport (Engineering Division of the Rosatom State Corporation) is the general contractor for the construction of the station; local companies will also be involved in the construction.
The Uzbek project is based on the latest Russian development – the RITM-200N water-cooled nuclear reactor, which is the result of adapting the innovative low-power technology of the RITM-200 marine design for land-based placement. The project is characterized by compactness, integral layout and reduced construction rates compared to high-power nuclear power plants.
