At the 3rd Central Asian Conference on Air Quality Management and Dust Storm Control in the Context of Climate Change, Zebuniso Muminzoda, Director of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) in Tajikistan, presented the results of a desk study on the potential of nature-based solutions to improve air quality and urban living conditions in Dushanbe and Bishkek. This project is supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and aims to reduce air pollution in key cities of the region through the promotion of nature-based solutions.
The Central Asian Conference on Air Quality Management 2024: Solutions for a Clean Air Future was held on September 19-20, 2024 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. This important event brought together leading experts, government representatives from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and independent specialists to discuss topical issues of air pollution and its impact on human health and the environment. This year, special attention is paid to nature-based solutions and regional cooperation.
The conference covers the following important topics:
– Modern technologies for air quality monitoring;
– The impact of air pollution on public health;
– Legislative and legal measures to control pollution;
– Regional cooperation to reduce transboundary air pollution.
The conference’s outcome was a document with recommendations for further actions aimed at improving air quality and reducing the effects of climate change in the region. This document will serve as a guide for the development of new programs and strategies to improve the environmental situation and public health in Central Asia. The conference once again demonstrates the need for joint efforts to address environmental issues and create a sustainable future for all countries in the region.
