National and private companies have been brought in to plant forests on the dried-out bottom of the Aral Sea, Kazinform reports.

As reported by the Committee for Forestry and Wildlife of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, an agreement was concluded with KATCO (a joint venture of the French state company Orano Mining SA and JSC NAC Kazatomprom), as well as the akimats of the Kyzylorda and Turkestan regions.
Thanks to KATCO funding, work on the project was launched in 2024 and will continue in 2025.
Results to date:
• 522 tons of seeds collected.
• 12,000 hectares were sown (December 16–30, 2024).
• Sowing is planned for 108,000 hectares in January–February 2025.
The project aims to restore the ecological balance of the region, improve climate conditions and support local communities.
Planting on the dried bed of the Aral Sea helps prevent further desertification of the region.
It was previously reported that 19.4 million saxaul seedlings are growing at the bottom of the dried-up Aral Sea.
In addition, the Kazinform agency previously wrote about the results that water diplomacy and scientific research are producing in saving the Aral Sea.
