Naryn, Kyrgyzstan – February 2, 2024 on the occasion of World Wetlands Day the Karatal-Zhapyryk State Nature Reserve named after Kadyrakun Bazarbayev held a round table at the Naryn Centralized Library named after. Zhumagul Konurbaeva. The round table was held for employees of the reserve and environmental organizations of the city of Naryn, the Naryn regional administration, the Salkyn-Tor natural park, the Naryn State Nature Reserve, the Naryn Media Center, members of the “Mountain Goose” eco-club and representatives of the media.

During the meeting, information was presented on the importance and role of wetlands, the current state of migratory birds in the Son-Kul and Chatyr-Kul lakes, monitoring activities carried out in areas of the Son-Kul and Chatyr-Kul nature reserve. The participants also discussed the work carried out on the basis of wetland protection projects and further work plans.

It should be noted that the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC) contributes to the implementation of the Ramsar Convention. With the support of GIZ and the Ramsar Convention Secretariat, CAREC supports the Ramsar Regional Initiative of Central Asia (RRI-CA). The RRI-CA’s objectives:

  • Support for the implementation of the Strategic Plan of the Ramsar Convention in Central Asia;
  • Promoting the effective conservation and sustainable use of existing and potential Ramsar wetlands in the region;
  • Raising awareness of the importance of wetland ecosystems;
  • Inclusion of wetlands issues in the programs of national and regional nature protection activities;
  • Ensuring the transfer of knowledge and experience in Central Asia and other regions of the world.
