The Executive Director of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), Zafar Makhmudov, met with the Head of the Sub-Regional Office of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) for Central Asia, Sergio Esperanca.
At the meeting, they considered issues of cooperation between the organizations. They paid special attention to prospects for joint efforts in sustainable development and demographic changes in the Central Asian region. Zafar Makhmudov and Sergio Esperança also discussed efficient measures to ensure socio-economic stability, including improving public health, family planning, and enhancing family resilience in the region.
One of the important topics was UNFPA’s participation in the Central Asia Climate Change Conference (CACCC-2025), which will be held in Turkmenistan in May 2025. The CAREC Executive Director invited Mr. Esperança to attend this event, which annually brings together experts and representatives of international organizations to discuss current environmental challenges.
