The REAP project, funded by the European Union SWITCH ASIA program, team has developed resource-saving tips for enterprises, which can be used in various sectors of production. These recommendations are based on real examples of implementation of sustainable consumption and production (SCP) practices at the enterprises involved in the project.
Implementation of these recommendations does not require large financial investments, but helps to use resources more economically and efficiently. There various options where companies can utilize SCP practices, the examples are listed below:
Ovens
- Use temperature controller system. Operate the oven at the lowest acceptable temperature.
Cold Storage
- Maintain a uniform temperature inside the cold storage. Install temperature sensors at various locations inside to control the chiller operation.
Refrigerators
- Ensure that the radiator of the refrigerator is at least 3 cm from any wall or obstruction to facilitate free air flow.
Boilers
- Improve oxygen trim control – limit excess air to less than 10% on clean fuels. A 1% reduction in the oxygen percentage of the flue gas increases the boiler efficiency by 0.6%.
Air Compressors
- Reduce air compressor discharge pressure to the lowest acceptable setting – a reduction of 1 kg/cm2 air pressure would result in 6% input power saving.
Water
- Use spray washing/ rinsing techniques for tank/vessel cleaning
Освещение
- Install reflectors and lower the height of the light fixture for improved illumination.
Material Handling
- Arrange the items on a category-wise basis and with clear visual tags so that they can be easily located in less than 30 seconds.
The fill list of recommendations is provided in the published document.
The REAP project is implemented by an international consortium under financial support of the European Union. The consortium comprises the National Association of Small and Medium Businesses of Tajikistan (NAMSB), the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan (CCIU), the German Consulting Office adelphi, the Association for the Promotion of Recycling and Environmental Protection in Austria (AREC), STENUM Asia Sustainable Development Society (STENUM Asia), and the Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). The consortium is led by the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC).
