Astana, Kazakhstan – Last week, the third Schools of Analytics with the support of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan completed its work. The school was attended by Zamira Zholdaskyzy, Coordinator for Development of Community of Practice and Network of Academic Society of the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC). Ms. Michaela Friberg-Storey, the United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan, became a special guest of the final day of lectures and trainings.

The course covered 7 key modules. The participants got acquainted with the main approaches in analytical activities, received valuable advice from experienced colleagues and strengthened professional ties. The lecturers were more than 20 well-known Kazakhstani and foreign experts. The young specialists were also accompanied by 13 mentors who assisted the teams in preparing analytical materials, gave directions and recommendations.

The course resulted in analytical reports by participants on the five Sustainable Development Goals, covering topics such as poverty eradication, health and well-being, quality education, clean water and sanitation, as well as decent work and economic growth. The report of the CAREC representative was devoted to the challenges and opportunities of implementing water-saving technologies in Kazakhstan. The final works of the participants will be published in the form of a collection and used in the work of the Senate of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Since its establishment in 2001, CAREC has been promoting environmental cooperation and sustainable development in the Central Asian region and become a platform for cooperation for sustainable development. It should also be noted that the organization was entrusted with the task to prepare and implement the Central Asian Initiative for sustainable development (CAI).

A key aim of the CAREC Change Concept is to establish sustainable governance, performance, partnership, and information management principles at CAREC which will independently from management and human resources changes secure CAREC’s performance as internationally recognized regional center on environmental knowledge.
