AKIPRESS.COM – 3,089,420 heads of livestock have died in Mongolia, the State Commission for Emergency Situations announced on Monday.

“This is related to the fact that 135 districts in 17 provinces of Mongolia suffer from white dzud, 50 districts in 11 provinces from iron dzud, and the situation in another 66 districts is approaching disastrous,” the official statement says.

Another batch of humanitarian aid was sent from Ulaanbaatar to regions of Mongolia where problems arose with the wintering of livestock on Sunday.

White and iron dzud is a natural disaster in pastoral regions, when livestock are unable to find food under snow and ice cover, resulting in the death of large numbers of animals.
