Saudi Arabia will allocate a large sum of money for the completion of the most powerful energy infrastructure facility in Tajikistan, the Rogun Hydroelectric Power Station
DUSHANBE, September 21 — Sputnik. The Saudi Fund for Development will provide $100 million in financing for the Rogun hydroelectric power station construction project.
The Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Tajikistan, Walid ibn Abdurrahman Ar-Reshaidon, announced this at a press conference.
“The Saudi fund will provide $100 million for the implementation of the Rogun hydroelectric power station construction project, which is of strategic importance for the country, as it will ensure energy security and sustainable economic growth in Tajikistan,” the diplomat said.
He added that Saudi Arabia’s financial support demonstrates the high level of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector and helps strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
The Rogun hydroelectric power station is the most powerful energy infrastructure facility in Tajikistan, which will significantly increase electricity production and supply it for export.
The station is located 110 kilometers east of Dushanbe, it is the largest hydroelectric power station in Central Asia. The hydroelectric power station building will house six hydroelectric units with a capacity of 600 megawatts each. The average annual electricity production of the Rogun hydroelectric power station is planned to be more than 7 billion kWh of electricity per year.
The dam, 335 meters high, will be the highest rockfill dam in the world. It forms the Rogun reservoir with a total volume of 13.3 cubic kilometers.
