The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation signed a memorandum of cooperation with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). The document was signed at the One Water Summit, held in Saudi Arabia with the participation of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The memorandum provides for the exchange of experience and best practices in water resource management, flood and drought risk management, improving irrigation efficiency, as well as the digitization of water resource accounting and monitoring. The parties will cooperate in organizing joint trainings, seminars, workshops, and conferences to deepen knowledge in the field of water resource management and engineering.
Cooperation in the field of research, innovation, and technology is also envisaged, particularly in data collection using remote sensing.
“The memorandum is aimed at cooperation in improving environmental conditions and water resource management, including in the Northern Aral Sea. The document provides for the joint development of measures aimed primarily at improving the quality of life in the Aral Sea basin and nearby regions. Joint work with foreign partners plays an important role in preserving the Aral Sea, and the ministry is actively involving international organizations and financial institutions in this process,” said First Vice Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Bolat Bekniyaz.
