The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation is holding seminars for farmers on the implementation of water saving technologies in Almaty, Zhetysu, Zhambyl, Turkestan and Kyzylorda regions. During the meetings, the best water saving practices in the country will be presented, as well as information on government support measures.

“The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, together with the Ministry of Agriculture, increased the subsidization of expenses from 50% to 80% for the creation of the necessary infrastructure, as well as for the purchase and installation of water-saving systems. In addition, today farmers who use water-saving technologies pay less for irrigation water. When using water-saving systems, the size of the subsidy for the payment of irrigation water has been increased depending on the tariff to 85%,” said Berikbol Mandibayev, Director of the Department for the Development of Water-Saving Technologies.

Today, there are four domestic factories in Kazakhstan producing sprinkler machines and drip irrigation equipment. This year, two more factories for the production of drip irrigation equipment are planned to be opened in the Turkestan region in cooperation with Chinese companies.

In addition, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation is testing innovative water-saving technologies. For example, last year, the Hungarian Water-Retainer preparation was tested together with the country’s leading research institutes. The test results showed the positive effect of the preparation on water conservation and increased crop yields for certain agricultural crops. According to preliminary data, using the preparation allows saving from 20 to 37% of water and simultaneously increasing crop yields.
