Ecology AKIpress – Kyrgyzstan, within the framework of the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, held a side event in New York on the topic “Facilitating the Five Years of Action: Mountains as a Key to Accelerating the Implementation of the SDG Agenda until 2030”.

The event was organized by the Administration of the President of Kyrgyzstan together with the Permanent Mission of the Republic to the UN. The co-organizers also included the FAO Office in New York, the Mountain Partnership Secretariat, Andorra, Nepal and Italy.

As reported by the press service of the Presidential Administration, during the side event, the special representative of the president Dinara Kemelova presented the progress of the implementation of the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions and the mountain initiatives of Kyrgyzstan, promoted within the framework of the UN.

She also shared the results of the International Conference “Global Mountain Dialogue for Sustainable Development” (April 24-25, 2025, Bishkek), also outlining the initiatives of President Sadyr Japarov, including the creation of a broad coalition of mountain countries, the UN-Mountains coordination mechanism. The event brought together representatives of mountain countries, UN agencies such as FAO, UNDP, UNEP, landlocked countries (LLDC), WMO, and experts. The speakers expressed the importance of promoting projects to protect mountain ecosystems, the interests of mountain communities, and support for Kyrgyzstan’s initiatives.
