A nationwide tree planting campaign is being conducted in Tajikistan from January to March 2026, reports NIAT Khovar.
As part of the campaign, exhibitions and sales of evergreen, ornamental, and fruit tree seedlings will be held every Saturday and Sunday at designated locations in cities and districts across the country.
The initiative is being implemented based on the “Schedule of Holidays and Anniversaries, Festivals, Exhibitions, Cultural and Educational Events, and Folk Traditions in the Republic of Tajikistan for 2026,” approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan dated January 2, 2026.
The national tree planting campaign is also planned for November–December 2026.
The goal of the nationwide campaign is to increase the area of orchards and vineyards, provide the population with food, provide raw materials for processing enterprises, expand the country’s exports, reduce the consumer market’s dependence on imported goods, create new jobs, implement green economy principles, restore forests, address environmental issues, prevent the effects of global warming, prevent the degradation of agricultural land, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.
Currently, Tajikistan’s gardeners are using modern gardening methods, creating super-intensive and intensive orchards. The number of certified seedlings of regional, high-yielding fruit tree varieties, which are climate-resistant and cost-effective, is also increasing, taking into account the needs of the export market. The favorable climate in the country’s regions allows for the creation and restoration of high-yielding orchards and vineyards.
As a reminder, in 2024, the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan approved the “State Program for Greening the Republic of Tajikistan through 2040.” According to the program, during the first phase (2025–2027), more than 10 million trees and shrubs will be planted in the country. The State Program for Greening the Republic of Tajikistan until 2040 was developed and submitted for consideration by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, jointly with relevant ministries and agencies, on the instructions of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon.
