On September 8, a round table on “Sustainable Fashion” and a fashion show were held as part of the Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW2026).
According to AZERTAC, the event was attended by representatives of the fashion industry from Azerbaijan and Europe, as well as experts and designers.
Speaking at the event, Nigar Arpadarai, a member of the Milli Majlis (Milli Majlis), COP29 High-Level Climate Champion, and BCAW Project Director, noted that the event’s goal is not only to discuss current challenges facing the fashion industry but also to present designers’ perspectives on climate change. She noted that last year’s roundtable was the first step in this direction. This year, the initiative was continued, with designers presenting their vision of sustainable fashion in their signature collections. Arpadarai noted that with two months remaining until COP31, the topic of “zero waste” is a particular focus this year. In this context, discussing sustainability and responsible production in the fashion industry is particularly important.
Malini Mehra, curator of London Climate Week and Baku Climate Action Week, emphasized the importance of sustainability in the fashion industry. The importance of reducing environmental impact, using resources efficiently, and improving production processes was discussed.
Aktoty Raimkulova, President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation, noted the importance of ideas related to ecology and sustainable design: “The cultural heritage of the Turkic civilization was formed based on respect for nature and environmental values. It is important for me to hear the valuable ideas expressed here today.”
She emphasized that the sustainable fashion show, held as part of the Baku Climate Action Week, makes a valuable contribution to the climate agenda.
Hijran Huseynova, Chair of the Milli Majlis Committee on Family, Women, and Children, spoke about the important role of women and youth in environmental activism. She emphasized the importance of promoting a zero-waste lifestyle and responsible consumption habits.
At the roundtable, international experts and designers exchanged views on the fashion industry’s impact on climate change, textile waste reduction, recycling, and sustainable production models.
It was noted that sustainable fashion is not limited to the use of new materials, but involves changing consumer habits and the efficient use of resources.
Participants presented their work and collections, highlighting the contribution of the clothing they created from recycled materials to environmental sustainability.
The event then included a Sustainable Fashion Show.
The themes of sustainability, nature and climate are creatively reflected in the collections presented.
