QAZAQ GREEN. Kazakhstan is planning to scale green-tech solutions across the country. This was announced during the presentation of the first fully autonomous solar-powered EV charging station in the CIS, where large-scale network expansion is now planned, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan reports.
The Ministry views the autonomous solar EV charging station as a growth point for scaling green-tech solutions nationwide.
An on-site working meeting in Astana, chaired by Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources M. Oshurbayev, was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Astana Akimat, JSC “NC “KazAvtoZhol”” and NJSC “International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects.”
The new green hub, located at the site of the Alatau sports complex, was developed by domestic company BOLASHAQ POWER LLP. It operates autonomously, off the city power grid, combining 100 kW of solar generation capacity with 645 kWh of energy storage, and fully complies with the criteria of Kazakhstan’s Green Taxonomy.
Meeting participants discussed the possibility of deploying similar autonomous stations along key national highways, in cities, at industrial enterprises and infrastructure facilities. In his remarks, Vice Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mansur Oshurbayev emphasized: “We must build not standalone green facilities, but an entire low-carbon economy infrastructure, where renewable energy, electric transport, innovative technologies and carbon projects operate as a single system. A charging station powered by solar energy makes it possible to simultaneously develop infrastructure for electric transport and reduce the carbon footprint of its operation. Our task is to move from individual demonstration projects to their widespread application across the regions of Kazakhstan, creating economically attractive conditions for investors.”
Expanding the network of such stations will allow Kazakhstan to build a portfolio of high-quality climate projects under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, encouraging private investment and driving systemic reductions in greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector.
