Climatologist estimates chances of 2025 becoming hottest in history

2025 is unlikely to be warmer than 2024. Climate expert Alexey Kokorin has assessed its chances of becoming the hottest year in recorded history.

“I would say that we should not expect global records of surface temperature in 2025. We can say that the current year will be clearly colder than 2024,” the expert believes. He added that the next temperature records should not be expected before 2027 or 2028.

Kokorin explained that the abnormal heat and temperature records of last year were associated with a complex of natural causes, one of which was the El Niño phase in the Pacific Ocean, which lasted from May 2023 to November 2024.

The climatologist specified that in December, the El Niño phase, after a short neutral phase, changed to the opposite, La Niña, when the ocean intensively absorbs heat from the atmosphere. According to Kokorin’s forecasts, it will either continue until April and then change to a neutral phase, or continue. The expert emphasized that the change of phases is a very important phenomenon for the entire planet.
