On October 21, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Emomali Rahmon, signed laws that had been adopted and endorsed by the Majlisi Namoyandagon and the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Among these is the Environmental Code of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The Environmental Code of the Republic of Tajikistan is aimed at fostering sustainable and rapid economic, social, cultural, and environmental progress for the population, protecting public health, and improving the state of the environment.
This marks another significant and momentous chapter in the country’s modern history and the development of the state’s environmental policy.
The document serves as a clear manifestation of the Head of State’s sustained interest and daily commitment to ensuring a healthy future for the country and preserving its unique natural landscape.
The process of developing and adopting this Code is directly linked to the political will and wise leadership of the President. It is worth noting that on September 17, 2025, during a substantive meeting with environmental protection officials, President Emomali Rahmon set forth a series of specific and fundamental objectives.
Following this meeting—initiated by the Government and carried out under the strict oversight of the Head of State—a draft of the Environmental Code was developed and subsequently adopted through the relevant resolutions of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Majlisi Namoyandagon, and the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli.
The Code establishes the legal framework for the protection of flora and fauna, the rational use of water resources, the mitigation of climate change impacts, and the improvement of the country’s environmental situation at a qualitatively new level.
With the entry into force of this Environmental Code, the legal foundations for a “green” policy in Tajikistan will be further strengthened, creating favorable conditions for future generations. The constructive initiatives of the Leader of the Nation once again demonstrate that Tajikistan is steadily moving forward, taking a leading role in addressing environmental issues and protecting the planet.
