From 1 to 5 September, the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan in Mary hosted a series of significant events aimed at developing international academic cooperation and exchange, and improving teaching staff qualifications.

A key focus was strengthening Turkmenistan’s scientific capabilities in renewable and sustainable energy.

During the events, two Memorandums of understanding were signed: between the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan and Clausthal University of Technology, as well as Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. The collaboration aims to strengthen academic and scientific ties by developing joint educational programmes, research initiatives and publications related to renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.

The ceremony coincided with Knowledge and Youth Day, as well as the opening of the new academic building at the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan.

“The signing of these Memorandums and the training course are an important step in developing cooperation between Turkmenistan and Germany in sustainable energy,” stated Dr. Caroline Milow, Project Manager of the EU for a Green Turkmenistan: “Policy Dialogue and Climate Action 2024-2028” project. “We are confident this partnership will open new opportunities for exchanging expertise and training highly qualified specialists who can implement even the most ambitious green energy projects.”

Adding to the week’s events, a special four-day certified course took place, titled “Sustainable Energy Systems: Fundamentals and Application of Renewable Technologies,” the course was led by experts from Germany’s Anhalt University of Applied Sciences. This specialized training brought together academics and government officials, including professors and researchers from SEIT, along with representatives from the Scientific and Production Center “Renewable Energy Sources” and the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan.

This certified course served multiple purposes: to introduce participants to the fundamentals of renewable energy technologies, to build practical skills for project evaluation and implementation, and to facilitate the international exchange of expertise. Particular emphasis was placed on supporting Turkmenistan’s national goals to diversify its energy sector and achieve sustainable development by bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
