The project “Researching the Adaptive Resilience of Rural Communities in Central Asia” (CARe), led by the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO, Germany) in collaboration with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC), aims to address this challenge. The project applies an evolutionary approach to resilience to examine how communities cope with climate change and transformation. By combining available quantitative data at the micro-level (household), long-term climate and environmental observations, and participatory research, the project will develop an operational multidimensional resilience index and create an interactive atlas. The initiative also emphasizes stakeholder dialogue to ensure the relevance of research findings to local realities and their applicability.
