Online workshop: new report by Agora Energiewende and the University of Central Asia “Cross-Border Integration of Central Asian Energy Systems”

May 15

Is it possible to decarbonize Central Asia’s energy sector without new coal-fired power plants—and how much is the region losing by delaying integration?
We invite you to an online workshop where the authors will present a new report by Agora Energiewende and the University of Central Asia, “Cross-Border Integration of Central Asian Power Systems.” The study, based on power system modeling (PyPSA-SPICE), shows that eliminating new coal could reduce the region’s annual system costs by approximately $3 billion (-15%) by 2035. Expanding interconnections—primarily between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan—increases these benefits, especially in the face of rising gas prices.
