QAZAQ GREEN. Germany will host the international North Sea Summit for the first time on 26 January 2026 in Hamburg, with a focus on strengthening cross-border cooperation to secure Europe’s energy supply.

According to the official web portal of the German Federal Government (Bundesregierung), the third North Sea Summit will bring together heads of state and government, as well as energy ministers, from Belgium, Denmark, France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway and representatives of the European Commission. Iceland and NATO will participate for the first time. More than 100 representatives from the private sector are also expected to attend.

The summit will focus on accelerating the expansion of offshore wind power and hydrogen infrastructure in the North Sea region, as well as developing a more integrated and efficient cross-border energy system. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said cooperation in the North Sea is crucial for building a strong, secure and energy-independent Europe, stressing the shared ambition to turn the region into the world’s largest source of clean energy.

Discussions will take place primarily at Hamburg City Hall and the Chamber of Commerce. On the evening of 25 January, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Katherina Reiche will host a dinner for energy ministers.

The outcomes of the summit are expected to be reflected in intergovernmental declarations, along with concrete agreements between North Sea countries on joint cooperation projects and a separate agreement with industry.

The North Sea Summit was launched in 2022 in Esbjerg, Denmark, and last held in 2023 in Ostend, Belgium. The initiative emerged in response to Russia’s war against Ukraine, aiming to reduce Europe’s dependence on fossil fuel imports and accelerate the deployment of offshore wind energy.
