It should be noted that, in accordance with Presidential Resolution No. 110 “On Comprehensive Measures to Accelerate Environmental Education, Science, and Propaganda within the Framework of the National Eco-Culture Project,” one technical school in each of 14 regions of the country will be transformed into “green” technical schools in 2026–2027. These educational institutions are expected to train 5,000 mid-level specialists in the 2026/2027 academic year, 7,000 in the 2027/2028 academic year, and 10,000 in the 2028/2029 academic year.
“‘Green’ technical schools are not just educational institutions, but a system for training a new generation of personnel that will foster environmental awareness, develop a green economy, and enhance climate resilience in our country,” noted Aziz Abdukhakimov, Advisor to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Environmental Issues and Chairman of the Committee on Ecology, during the meeting. “First and foremost, it is necessary to review technical school curricula and bring them into line with international standards.”
During the meeting, special attention was paid to the important issues of improving the quality of modern technical and specialized education in technical schools. It was noted that when training personnel, it is essential to consider the environmental, social, and economic characteristics of each region, which will enable the development of specialists with a deep understanding of the environmental specifics of their territories and possessing specialized qualifications.
Important tasks were also identified, including the creation of in vitro laboratories in “green” technical schools in the Andijan, Bukhara, Surkhandarya, and Jizzakh regions, the full implementation of a dual education system, the allocation of quotas for students from Central Asian countries and other foreign countries, the creation of practical training sites in buildings and areas assigned to technical schools, the organization of a system for improving industry qualifications, and other areas.
For reference: the specialized subjects taught in the first year of university studies will be included in the second-year curricula of “green” technical schools as special courses. Technical school graduates who successfully complete their studies and possess B2-level English proficiency will be given the opportunity to continue their studies in the second year of a bachelor’s degree based on their GPA, as determined by the university.
In addition, practical training sites will be organized for students from Green University and green technical schools in forestry facilities, hydrometeorological stations, protected natural areas, waste disposal sites, botanical and dendrological gardens, zoos, and the Institutes of Botany and Zoology. Starting in the 2026/2027 academic year, an “Eco-scholarship” will be established, and up to 10 talented students will receive this scholarship annually.
