QAZAQ GREEN. The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan has approved the professional standard “Digitalization and Application of Artificial Intelligence in Energy.”
The document was developed in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Professional Qualifications” and is aimed at establishing modern professional requirements in the field of digital transformation of the energy sector.
In line with the Plan for the Development and Updating of Professional Standards for 2026, and given that the Head of State has declared 2026 the Year of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence,
the standard introduces new professions: smart grid designer, engineer for the development and implementation of artificial intelligence in power systems (Smart Grid), and cybersecurity specialist for energy networks. These professions were formed on the basis of Kazakhstan’s Atlas of New Professions and Competencies and will be used in developing educational programs and training personnel for the energy sector.
The professional standard applies to the electric power and heat power industries and covers types of economic activity related to the implementation and operation of digital technologies, automation systems, data analysis, as well as the development and application of artificial intelligence–based solutions.
In particular, the standard applies to the processes of generation, transmission, storage, distribution, and consumption of electric and heat energy.
The document provides for the use of modern digital tools, including automated process control systems (APCS), supervisory and technological control systems (STCS), Smart Grid technologies, digital data and resources, as well as artificial intelligence–based solutions.
The professional standard also establishes unified approaches to the knowledge, skills, and competency requirements for specialists working with digital technologies in the energy sector.
The introduction of the standard will make it possible to update professional qualifications in line with the industry’s digital transformation, raise the requirements for specialists’ competencies, and create the conditions for training personnel capable of effectively applying artificial intelligence and data analysis technologies in the energy sector.
Once officially published, the document will be posted on the Ministry of Energy’s website and on the digital platform of the National Qualifications System.
