On September 18, in New York, Minister M. Turgunbaev held a meeting with the head of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Dr. Qu Dongyu, which took place on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.

The Minister expressed gratitude to the Organization for the significant assistance and significant contribution of FAO in the implementation of diverse projects aimed at protecting the environment, combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, supporting sustainable agriculture and forestry.

M. Turgunbaev emphasized that Kyrgyzstan attaches paramount importance to issues of adaptation to climate change and that in this context, he expressed interest in launching a number of projects that will support the countries of Central Asia in restoring degraded lands, increasing the availability of water and its more efficient use , reducing greenhouse gas emissions, adapting to climate change, achieving land degradation neutrality in vulnerable ecosystems relevant to the water-land nexus, and developing an overall strategic action plan for integrated water resources management.

The parties also discussed issues of possible interaction to promote the mountain initiative, the Jashyl Muras initiative, as well as within the framework of the upcoming COP-28.
