It is very difficult to prevent the decline in the Caspian Sea level because it is a natural phenomenon associated with changes in the global and regional climate, Vladimir Shevchenko, acting director of the P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told RIA Novosti , Lada.kz reports .

According to scientists, a decrease in the water level in the Caspian Sea is predicted for at least the next 25-50 years.
It is difficult to prevent the level from falling. This is, in many ways, a natural phenomenon associated with changes in the global and regional climate, which has led to a sharp increase in evaporation from the sea surface. Even slightly reducing the decline in sea level is also difficult. Although the Volga runoff has indeed been decreasing in recent years, we cannot call it the main culprit of shallowing, – said Vladimir Shevchenko.
He stressed that it is more correct to talk about a decrease in sea level, rather than its shallowing, since over 30 years the level has dropped by 3 meters with its maximum depth being 1015 meters.
The scientist also noted that it is completely incorrect to predict the fate of the Aral Sea for the Caspian Sea.
The Aral Sea is a reverse example, because it was indeed destroyed by man, although there were also climatic factors that led to increased evaporation and decreased precipitation in the catchment area of the rivers flowing into it. At the same time, the reservoir has already been partially saved by building a dam between the Small Aral in the north and the Big Aral in the south, – added Vladimir Shevchenko.
According to him, it has already been possible to restore the population of 22 species of fish in the Small Aral Sea, and further rehabilitation of these reservoirs is possible by increasing the flow of the Amu Darya and Syr Darya rivers, whose waters are used to irrigate agricultural lands.
Let us recall that earlier Azerbaijan initiated a summit on the problem of the shallowing of the Caspian Sea.
