On January 23, 2026, the first online consultation will be held, focusing on the development of two strategic tools: a regional roadmap and a regional online catalog for transboundary flash floods and mudflows in Central Asia.

Central Asia remains one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable regions, with warming rates nearly twice the global average. Increasingly frequent flash floods and mudflows do not recognize national borders, and the total annual damage from natural disasters in the region is estimated at USD 9–10 billion.

From Challenges to Joint Solutions

With the support of the KG RESILAND project, two regional documents are currently under development:

• Regional Roadmap and Investment Plan: a foundation for coordinated planning and mobilization of resources to mitigate the impacts of flash floods and mudflows.
• Regional Online Catalog (Geoportal): an innovative platform for collecting and visually mapping geospatial data on climate-related disasters.

Objectives of the Consultation: The upcoming meeting will bring together leading national experts from Central Asian countries to establish a professional network. Participants will be presented with:

• Analysis of transboundary river basins most vulnerable to flash floods and mudflows;
• Draft structures of the regional roadmap and the regional online catalog.

Following the consultation, working contacts will be established, recommendations on document content will be provided, sources of information and data acquisition opportunities will be identified, and the next steps will be determined.

The Kyrgyz Republic Resilient Landscape Restoration Project is part of the World Bank’s RESILAND CA+ program, aimed at strengthening landscape resilience across Central Asian countries. Similar national and regional activities are also being implemented in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
