QAZAQ GREEN. The installation of solar panels has begun in Dushanbe as part of efforts to improve energy efficiency and promote sustainable power generation. The initiative includes the deployment of solar panels on infrastructure facilities, including roadways, Asia-Plus reported.
One of the first installations has been carried out on a railway bridge near the city’s Textile Combine. Speaking at a press conference on January 29, the Committee for Architecture and Construction under the Government of Tajikistan said the project is aimed at reducing electricity consumption and expanding the use of solar energy at small industrial enterprises, childcare facilities, and residential buildings.
According to the committee’s chairman, Nizom Mirzozoda, the installation of solar panels and the technical review of related facilities were approved by an order signed on April 1, 2024. Since then, 1,530 projects have passed examination, all of which предусматривают the installation of solar panels with capacities ranging from 250 to 500 watts.
He noted that the panels will supply electricity during daylight hours, easing the load on the main power grid and ensuring energy availability in the event of outages. Elevators and video surveillance systems are also expected to operate on solar power, further reducing pressure on centralized networks.
Since April 1, 2024, solar panel installation has been planned for 558 facilities. These include 381 residential buildings, 23 industrial enterprises, 61 secondary schools, 13 preschools, 42 hospitals and medical centers, and 38 administrative buildings.
At a government meeting in November last year chaired by President Emomali Rahmon, Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma said the Power Sector Development Program for 2026–2030 aims to add 2,680 MW of new capacity through hydropower construction, increase capacity by 253 MW via modernization of existing plants, restore 440 MW through equipment upgrades, and generate 1,500 MW from solar energy.
The president also instructed that solar panels be installed on residential buildings and integrated into the national power grid as part of the country’s broader energy transition strategy.
