On August 11, the Government of Tajikistan and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) officially launched the Climate Risk Management Project in Dushanbe. The initiative aims to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities to the impacts of climate change and natural disaster risks.
The project is funded by the Government of Switzerland and implemented by WFP in close cooperation with the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense of Tajikistan and other national partners.
The project includes work in several areas, including improving risk assessment and early warning systems, developing early response mechanisms, and developing emergency-resilient social protection.

n addition, the project envisages the implementation of solutions in the field of climate finance and agricultural insurance.
The launch ceremony was attended by representatives of government agencies, development partners, technical agencies, and regional organizations from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and the Kyrgyz Republic.
Participants discussed priority areas for project implementation, as well as issues of strengthening cooperation until 2030.

Simon Hollema, WFP Representative and Country Director in Tajikistan, noted that the project will help strengthen national systems and increase the resilience of local communities.
According to him, this is planned to be achieved through earlier response, improved preparation and more effective measures to reduce climate risks.

Denise Lüthi Krishan, Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Tajikistan, stated that Switzerland is pleased to contribute to the project’s implementation not only as a co-financing partner, but also through the sharing of its long-standing experience in disaster risk reduction, natural hazard management, and the application of risk-based approaches.
She emphasized that Tajikistan and Switzerland face a common challenge: adapting to a changing climate and strengthening resilience.
Following the event, a preliminary cooperation document was signed. It provides for the joint implementation of the project and reaffirms a shared commitment to making Tajikistan more resilient to climate change.
