Technology, financing and expertise: Uzbekistan and the UAE strengthen climate cooperation

On the sidelines of international events in Ulaanbaatar, Aziz Abdukhakimov, Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, met with the Minister of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates, Dr. Amna Bint Abdullah.
 

During the meeting, the parties discussed promising areas of cooperation in the development of arid-land economies, the sustainable management of water resources, and the introduction of modern approaches to cultivating salt- and drought-tolerant crops. Particular attention was given to the UAE’s experience in establishing and developing the Food Tech Valley and to opportunities for applying advanced technologies in arid-climate conditions.

Dr. Amna Bint Abdullah supported the initiative to establish a National Centre for Hydrometeorology and Climate Change in Uzbekistan and expressed her readiness to assist in mobilising international financing, advanced technologies and expert capacity for the implementation of joint projects.

During the meeting, the UAE Minister was also presented with national projects and initiatives being implemented in Uzbekistan at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The projects presented generated considerable interest and received high praise from Dr. Amna Bint Abdullah.

The parties underscored the importance of further strengthening practical cooperation and exchanging experience in the areas of climate resilience, water conservation, food security and the sustainable development of arid regions.
