Meeting of the CEP Chairman with the UNEP Executive Director

On February 11, 2024, on the sidelines of the 14th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Protection of Migratory Wild Animals (CMS CMSCOP14), a bilateral meeting was held between the Chairman of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sheralizoda Bahodur Ahmadjon, and the Executive Director of the UN Environment Program, Ms. Inger Andersen (UNEP).

During this meeting, the parties discussed issues of biodiversity, sustainable development, climate change, disaster risk, and other important issues of our time.

Also, the head of the Committee focused attention on the next initiative of the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Honorable Emomali Rahmon, to declare 2025 “International Year”

protection of glaciers” and March 21 as “World Glacier Day”, as well as the establishment within the framework of the UN of the “International Trust Fund for the Protection of Glaciers”.

The meeting was held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding on broad issues in the field of environmental protection, and the parties reached an agreement on the issues raised. In conclusion the meeting, Sheralizoda Bahodur invited Ms. Inger Andersen to attend the International Conference “Water for Sustainable Development”, which is scheduled to be held in June 2024 in Dushanbe.

Meeting of the Chairman of the Committee on Environmental Protection with the Director of the Global Environment Facility (GEF)       

On February 12, 2024, on the sidelines of the 14th session of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Protection of Migratory Wild Animals, a meeting was held between the head of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sheralizoda Bahodur Ahmadjon, and the Director of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), Mr. Carlos Manuel Rodriguez.

During the meeting, the parties paid special attention to climate change, loss of biological diversity, environmental pollution, and other important related issues. Also during the meeting, the Chairman of the Committee mentioned the country’s global initiatives to promote and solve water and climate problems at the global level and their implementation by environmental funds and development partners.

In the final part of the meeting, the parties agreed to strengthen cooperation between Tajikistan and the above-mentioned Fund in the field of biological diversity, climate change, and environmental protection. Also, the Chairman of the Committee invited Mr. Carlos Manuel Rodriguez to visit the Republic of Tajikistan at any time suitable for him.
