The World Bank has allocated $52 million to Kyrgyzstan for environmental restoration

Ecology AKIpress – The World Bank, within the framework of the RESILAND CA+ program, allocated $52 million to Kyrgyzstan to protect nature and prevent natural disasters. This was reported on April 17 by the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The project will help prevent mudflows, restore degraded lands and strengthen cooperation with neighboring countries in the field of sustainable landscape management. Attention is also paid to preventing accelerated melting of glaciers, maintaining the water balance and improving water resources management.

The project will be implemented in 2024-2029 and is financed by international partners:

  • US$45 million – loan from the International Development Association;
  • US$5 million – PROGREEN grant;
  • US$2.4 million – grant from the Korea-World Bank Partnership Fund.

It is expected that 17,000 people will be protected from natural disasters, 70,000 hectares of land will be under sustainable management, thousands of jobs will be created in the regions, and international cooperation in the field of ecology will be improved.

As Emergency Situations Minister Boobek Azhikeev said, this project will be a new chapter in the fight against soil degradation and climate threats in Kyrgyzstan. “We are not just restoring landscapes, but protecting the future of our communities,” he added.
