On June 23, a delegation from Turkmenistan, including representatives of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Energy and the State Energy Institute, arrived in the Federal Republic of Germany on a familiarization visit. This week-long trip, which will last until June 28, is organized by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) within the framework of the key project “The European Union for the Green Development of Turkmenistan: Policy Dialogue and Action on Climate Change for 2024–2028”.
The main objective of the visit is to further strengthen cooperation between the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan, the State Concern Turkmengaz and GIZ, based on the Memorandum of Understanding of 14 May 2024. This project is the EU’s contribution to the development of the “green” economy of Turkmenistan and is aimed at deepening cooperation between research centers and higher education institutions of Turkmenistan and Europe in the field of sustainable development. The main content of the visit includes strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation and exchanging experience in the scientific and educational sphere. In particular, it is planned to discuss future Memorandums of Understanding with leading German universities – Clausthal University of Technology and Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg – to develop cooperation in scientific research.
A key objective of cooperation with these universities is also to combine efforts to study advanced green technologies. This includes reducing carbon emissions, developing renewable energy sources, increasing energy efficiency, and developing sustainable environmental solutions that contribute to achieving the climate goals of both Turkmenistan and the European Union.
During the first days of the visit, the Turkmen delegation held a number of important meetings. Issues of international energy security, sustainable development and energy cooperation strategy were discussed with representatives of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany (Auswärtiges Amt). At a meeting at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz), the parties considered the potential of renewable energy sources, the introduction of energy-saving technologies and innovative solutions in the energy sector.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited the German Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Space (Bundesministerium für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt — BMFTR), where they discussed state policy in the field of higher education, funding for scientific research in the field of energy and ecology, as well as academic exchange programs in the field of renewable energy.
The Turkmen delegation’s study tour to the Federal Republic of Germany continues, confirming the mutual desire to develop sustainable and environmentally oriented cooperation.
