On World Environment Day, a conference entitled “Environmental Well-being – an Important Condition for Sustainable Development” was held in the Turkmenistan pavilion at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka.
The event was attended by the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Japan Atadurdy Bayramov, representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, as well as employees of the World Exhibition and numerous visitors to the pavilion, which is recognized as one of the most striking at EXPO 2025.
In their speeches, the participants emphasized Turkmenistan’s commitment to the introduction of environmentally friendly technologies and its active support for international efforts to protect the environment. Particular emphasis was placed on the priority of combating climate change.
A clear sign of this commitment was Turkmenistan’s accession to the Global Methane Commitment, announced by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai in December 2023. The country is actively developing the necessary legal framework to stimulate the introduction of low-carbon technologies, and is also fruitfully cooperating with international organizations and partner countries to practically implement the terms of this commitment.

Particular importance is attached to cooperation with Japan, in particular in the field of ecological transition and climate monitoring. Thus, on April 15, 2025, during the visit of the President of Turkmenistan to Japan, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan and Chuo University on cooperation using greenhouse gas observation satellites (GOSAT). This Memorandum is aimed at improving the national greenhouse gas inventory and increasing Turkmenistan’s reporting capacity under the Paris Agreement.
This agreement is part of a larger joint project aimed at verifying greenhouse gas emissions data using GOSAT. Chuo University, which is actively developing partnerships in Central Asia, has successfully established cooperation with all five countries in the region, and the signing of the Memorandum with Turkmenistan completed this process. Chuo University will support the development of the Biennial Transparency Report of the participating countries using Japanese satellite observation technology. As for Turkmenistan, the university will pay special attention to building cooperative partnerships.

Earlier, in February 2025, representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan took part in the International Conference on Greenhouse Gas Emissions Assessment using the GOSAT Satellite in Tokyo, which emphasizes the practical focus and scientific and technical depth of interaction in this critically important area.
Holding this conference at EXPO 2025 in Osaka once again confirms Turkmenistan’s active role in promoting the environmental agenda and striving for sustainable development at the global level.
