From 17 to 20 June, Nice hosted the 11th International Conference of the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking Agency. This significant event, co-organized with the French University of the Côte d’Azur and the University of Indonesia, became an important platform for promoting Turkmenistan’s achievements in higher education, especially in the area of sustainable development. The conference also contributed to strengthening international cooperation in this key area.
The forum was dedicated to the theme “Achieving Sustainable Development Goals in Higher Education: The Story of Our Organization and Society.” Its main goals were to develop international cooperation, exchange experiences, and promote joint environmental initiatives among higher education institutions around the world.
Turkmenistan was represented at the conference by scientists from the S.A. Niyazov Turkmen Agricultural University and the Oguz Khan Engineering and Technology University.
It is important to note that the Turkmen Agricultural University named after S.A. Niyazov in 2024 took 474th place in the world ranking “UI GreenMetric World University Rankings”, which evaluates universities on six indicators of sustainable development and ecology.
Two significant projects from Turkmen universities were presented at the conference:
• The Turkmen Agricultural University named after S.A. Niyazov presented a project for the production of organomineral fertilizers from livestock waste, demonstrating environmentally friendly processing of agricultural waste.
• A representative of the Oguz Khan University of Engineering and Technology presented research on the use of biofuel from the microalgae Chlorella vulgaris as a sustainable energy source and environmentally friendly recycling of irrigation water.
Participation in the conference allowed Turkmen universities to exchange experiences and discuss upcoming challenges on the path to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in higher education.
