QAZAQ GREEN.  An opening ceremony for the 20 MW Chorbog wind power plant was held on 20 August in Bostanliq district of Uzbekistan’s Tashkent region, Uzbekistan’s Energy ministry reports.

The event was attended by China’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Uzbekistan Yu Jun, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, energy and construction companies, Uzbekhydroenergo JSC, as well as representatives of the Tashkent region and Bostanliq district administrations, local activists and journalists.

The project was implemented with financial support from China. The Chinese Government provided a non-refundable grant of $28 million for its implementation.

The plant is equipped with four wind turbines, each with a capacity of 5 MW. The facility has a total installed capacity of 20 MW and is expected to generate up to 50 million kWh of electricity annually.

According to project representatives, the plant will be capable of supplying electricity to nearly 20,000 households and strengthening the stability of Uzbekistan’s power system.

The plant’s operation is also expected to save hundreds of thousands of cubic metres of natural gas annually and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The project is part of Uzbekistan’s efforts to expand renewable energy, reduce its carbon footprint and meet its international climate commitments.
