Uzbekistan is ready to produce green hydrogen
A pilot production of green hydrogen in the Tashkent region with the participation of Saudi ACWA Power may be launched as early as June. Thus, Uzbekistan will become the sixth country in the world to master one of the environmentally friendly types of fuel.
“We hope that during the Tashkent International Investment Forum (scheduled for early June – ed. ) we will be able to demonstrate the results and officially announce this,” the head of the Ministry of Energy said.
Speaking at a panel session of the energy conference, the minister said that today only five countries in the world are engaged in the production of green hydrogen. Thus, Uzbekistan is expanding the “hydrogen” club to six participants who have mastered one of the environmentally friendly types of fuel.
Let us recall that in November 2023, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev launched the construction of a pilot green hydrogen production facility in the Tashkent region with the participation of ACWA Power (Saudi Arabia). As part of this $88 million project, the first stage in 2025 will see the commissioning of 3,000 tons of green hydrogen.
According to experts, as a result of the efficient use of alternative energy resources, Uzbekistan will be one of the first in the world to produce mineral fertilizers from green hydrogen, which will allow decarbonization of this sector of the economy and the delivery of products with high added value to world markets.
