World Bank to allocate $59m for green finance development in Kyrgyzstan

QAZAQ GREEN. Kyrgyzstan is set to receive $59 million under the Green Guarantees component of a World Bank project. The corresponding subsidiary agreement was signed on June 11, 2026, between the Guarantee Fund JSC and the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic.

The funding is channeled through the International Development Association (IDA), a member of the World Bank Group, as part of the project “Development of a Sustainable Financial Market for SMEs in the Kyrgyz Republic.” The project comprises three components: green and sustainable finance, green guarantees, and capacity building in sustainable finance.

The Kyrgyz Guarantee Fund has been appointed as the implementing agency for the Green Guarantees component. Under this framework, a support mechanism will be established for entrepreneurs pursuing projects in renewable energy, energy efficiency, industrial modernization, and sustainable agriculture.

“Green economic transformation is impossible without accessible financing. The new guarantee mechanism will enable entrepreneurs to implement projects focused on modern environmental technologies and improved energy efficiency,” said Malik-Aydar Abakirov, Chairman of the Board of Guarantee Fund JSC.

The project aims to broaden access to finance for small and medium-sized businesses and is expected to support Kyrgyzstan’s national sustainable development goals.
