Head of Kazakh Invest Yerzhan Elekeyev held a meeting with the president of the Chinese company Shanghai SUS Environment Co. Long Jisheng, where they discussed an investment project for the construction of a plant for generating electricity from waste. This was reported by the press service of the national company.

The waste processing plant is to be built in Almaty. The estimated investment volume is $270 million, the processing capacity is about 2,000 tons of waste per day, while it is planned to generate up to 60 MW of electricity, which is equivalent to covering a significant part of the city’s needs. The project envisages the creation of hundreds of new jobs, the use of modern technologies, as well as the transfer of knowledge and training of personnel.

“Energy will be generated by burning solid municipal waste based on patented highly efficient SUS Environment technologies that comply with European environmental standards. The efficiency of energy generation at such facilities reaches 26%, which is higher than the industry average,” the statement says.

The Chinese company has already submitted a preliminary feasibility study and architectural concepts developed jointly with France’s AIA Life Designers and China’s Wintop Design. SUS Environment plans to sign an investment agreement with the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Shanghai SUS Environment is a leading global provider of environmental and energy solutions, ranking first in the Chinese market in the Waste-to-Energy (WtE) sector. The company manages assets worth over $5.2 billion, has over 3.5 thousand employees and is present in 10 countries. Over the years, SUS has implemented 84 projects with a total processing capacity of 110 thousand tons per day, producing 18 billion kWh of electricity per year.
