The Fourth International High-Level Conference on the Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028,” is taking place in Dushanbe from May 25 to 28. The event was organized at the initiative of the Government of Tajikistan, jointly with the United Nations and development partners. The main goal of the conference is to promote the implementation of the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028,” proclaimed by the UN General Assembly resolution on December 21, 2016.
Participation is expected from high-level representatives of UN Member State governments, international and regional organizations, financial institutions, scientific and educational institutions, the private sector, public organizations and civil society, as well as women’s, youth and children’s associations.
During the conference, participants will visit various regions of Tajikistan, where they will be able to become acquainted with the country’s natural environment, tourist and recreational facilities, and the country’s water and energy potential.
A thematic exhibition dedicated to water resources is also planned. It will showcase Tajikistan’s hydropower capabilities and the use of water resources for economic development.
Organizers note that holding such events helps strengthen Tajikistan’s image as a Central Asian country with significant water resources and an active position on water and climate change issues.
