AI to boost renewable energy generation forecasting accuracy to 80%

QAZAQ GREEN. Samruk-Energy JSC is implementing a project to digitalize electricity generation planning processes at its renewable energy facilities. The artificial intelligence and machine learning-based solution is scheduled to launch by the end of 2026, according to the press service of the Ministry of Energy.

Forecasting accuracy is especially critical for wind power facilities, as generation volumes depend directly on meteorological conditions — particularly wind speed, which is highly variable and difficult to predict.

The solution is built around an artificial intelligence model integrated with the meteorological service. The system will process weather data with the high spatial and temporal resolution needed to forecast output from wind power plants.

The AI model will be trained and fine-tuned using historical and real-time data from AMR (automated metering) and SCADA systems — actual generation figures and technical operating parameters of the equipment. This will allow the system to account for real operating conditions and improve generation forecasting accuracy to up to 80%, supporting more effective operational planning and reducing financial losses caused by deviations between actual and declared generation volumes.
