Opening the event, Green University Rector Professor Bakhtiyor Pulatov emphasized that climate challenges such as water scarcity, land degradation, and soil salinization require the implementation of science-based and climate-adapted solutions. He also noted the important role of international cooperation within the SATREPS program and the BLUE project in integrating scientific research into water resource management practices.
The program included discussions on real-time solar radiation monitoring, drought detection and monitoring systems, sand and dust storm monitoring based on ground-based and satellite data, water resource management in the Aral Sea basin, and the development of a national groundwater model for the Republic of Uzbekistan based on the MODFLOW software package. In addition, special attention was paid to analyzing the results achieved within the BLUE project, identifying scientific and practical gaps, defining priority areas for further research and development, and implementing these developments at the level of local authorities and agricultural producers.
The event included a panel discussion with stakeholders, discussing data exchange, organizing real-time monitoring, implementing climate-adapted technologies, and developing sustainable development scenarios for the Aral Sea region. Following the meeting, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Agribusiness Association and the Hydrometeorological Research Institute.
The Agribusiness Association is a large organization providing legal support to nearly 30,000 farmers across the republic. Together with the Hydrometeorological Research Institute, it has established a system of agrometeorological services for farmers, landowners, and gardeners via the Telegram bot @agro_meteo_bot. The Association’s director noted that integrating such scientific products into the platform will enable effective solutions to food security issues in the republic based on modern scientific and innovative approaches. It was also emphasized that scientific developments in the field of hydrometeorology can be more quickly implemented through this system.
This event is expected to become an important platform for strengthening dialogue between the scientific community, government agencies, and international partners, and will also make a significant contribution to the development of sustainable solutions for water resource management and adaptation to climate change in the Aral Sea region.
