On 23 October 2026, the BARS-2026 Scientific and Practical Conference was held at the La’l Hotel in Khorog, Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast (GBAO), at the initiative of the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. The conference marked the International Day of the Snow Leopard.

The conference addressed snow leopard conservation, the effects of climate change on its habitat, and stronger cooperation to protect this rare species. It was emphasised that a stable snow leopard population is one indicator of healthy mountain ecosystems and the maintenance of ecological balance.
