The leader in terms of the volume of necessary investments is Uzbekistan, followed by Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.

According to the EDB study “Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation in Central Asia”, in the period from 2025 to 2030, the countries of the region will need $29.2 billion to finance water and climate infrastructure.
To date, out of the total amount of $29.2 billion, funding has been provided for only $12.068 billion, which is about 41.3% of the required funds.
Uzbekistan has the best funding, followed by Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
More than $2 billion will be needed annually to upgrade the region’s water supply systems. The bulk of the investment will be borne by Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, whose needs exceed $800 million per year. Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan also need significant investment, especially given long-term climate challenges.
