
Among the Central Asian and EAEU countries, Tajikistan was the largest recipient of USAID assistance in 2024, with Armenia in second place. Significant amounts were also sent to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Belarus. Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Russia received the smallest amounts of payments.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is one of the main donors of humanitarian aid in Tajikistan. According to the US Embassy in Tajikistan, over 30 years the United States has provided the republic with aid worth more than $2 billion, the bulk of which was provided through USAID.
Over the past two years, the Agency, through the UN World Food Programme, has provided $20 million to Tajikistan to strengthen assistance to vulnerable households.
In the energy sector, USAID helped Tajikistan implement the country’s renewable energy sources and build the technical capacity of Tajik energy companies.
For example, in partnership with the Government of Tajikistan, the Agency installed a 200-kilowatt solar power plant with battery storage in Murghab, which provides electricity to communities in the most remote areas of the country.
In the health sector, USAID provided nearly $38 million to Tajikistan from 2003 to 2021 to combat the HIV/AIDS epidemic. USAID also supported the country to protect maternal, child and nutritional health, and combat tuberculosis, ensuring more effective and accessible prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
During COVID-19, the Agency provided our country with $10.2 million to counter the pandemic. The US government, through USAID, transferred more than 1.8 million doses of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines to Tajikistan.
To develop the education sector, the organization provided the republic with about $60 million for development from 2002 to 2021.

USAID promoted the rights of Tajik migrants by raising awareness about safe migration through radio programs and video tutorials. Through a hotline service, the agency provided legal and psychological consultations to approximately 63,000 Tajik citizens.
The volume of bilateral Tajik-American trade in 2024 amounted to about $100 million, more than 70% of which comes from the United States to Tajikistan. Direct US investment in the economy of Tajikistan from 2014 to 2022 amounted to about $500 million.
In 2024, the United States provided Tajikistan with humanitarian aid worth over $17.3 million, which is 15.8% of all humanitarian aid that was received in the republic during this period.
