Uzbekistan began building hydroelectric power station-2 on the Naryn River

Construction of the second hydroelectric power station (HPP-2) on the Naryn River has begun in the Namangan region of Uzbekistan. The project is being implemented within the framework of the renewable energy development program and is the first example of fully national financing in the country – all work is being carried out at the expense of the Uzbekgidroenergo company. This was reported by the company’s press service.

The construction of GES-2 is part of a large-scale project to create a cascade of six hydroelectric power plants, each of which will have an installed capacity of 38 megawatts. Upon completion of the project, the total annual output will be about 1.025 billion kilowatt-hours of environmentally friendly electricity, which will provide electricity to about 430 thousand households.

In addition, the launch of the cascade of stations will allow for annual savings of up to 277 million cubic meters of natural gas, which is important in terms of increasing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions into the atmosphere.

Simultaneously with HPP-2, construction of the first station in the cascade, HPP-1, continues.

The project is seen as one of the key elements of Uzbekistan’s strategy to transition to sustainable energy, reduce dependence on fossil fuels and improve the environmental situation in the region.
