In the Jalal-Abad region, sites for the implementation of green solutions have been presented as part of the KG RESILAND project

As part of the World Bank’s mission to review the progress of the Sustainable Landscape Restoration Project in Kyrgyzstan, a site visit was conducted today to the first site in the Jalal-Abad region where green solutions are planned to reduce the risks of mudflows and soil erosion.

A World Bank mission and representatives of the Project Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic visited sites located in the mudflow zone. These areas had previously been identified and presented by the P.A. Gan Forest Institute as potential targets for nature-based measures, including planting shelterbelts, stabilizing slopes, and restoring degraded lands.

The focus is on preserving vulnerable areas

Visits to the sites allowed them to assess their current condition and identify areas most susceptible to erosion. Experts noted that the timely implementation of natural solutions—such as protective plantings and bioengineering measures—will not only reduce the threat of mudflows but also restore the natural balance of the region’s ecosystems.

Partnership for a Sustainable Future

The KG RESILAND project is being implemented with financial support from the World Bank through the International Development Association (IDA) and is coordinated by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic. Its main goal is to strengthen the climate and environmental resilience of regions vulnerable to natural disasters, as well as improve the protection of the population and agricultural lands.

The following took part in the mission:

Director of the Project Implementation Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic Zhyldyz Toktorbaeva, Deputy Director Chinara Berbaeva, as well as representatives of the World Bank led by the project team leader and senior environmental specialist Aidai Bayalieva from the World Bank, specialists from the P.A. Gan Forest Institute, and representatives of local authorities and relevant structures involved in the project.

The results of the field visit will form the basis for decision-making on priority areas for the implementation of nature-oriented approaches in the Jalal-Abad region.
