
QAZAQ GREEN. The 9th meeting of the Kazakhstan–European Union Subcommittee on Energy, Transport, Environment and Climate Change has been held. The Kazakh side was led by Vice Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sanzhar Zharkeshov, while the EU side was co-chaired by Dietmar Krissler, Head of the Central Asia Division at the European External Action Service.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and future prospects of cooperation in the energy sector.
Opening the session, Sanzhar Zharkeshov noted that Kazakhstan’s strategic partnership with the European Union plays an important role in advancing the global energy dialogue and strengthening long-term ties between the sides.
Particular attention was paid to strategic cooperation in building sustainable value chains for raw materials, batteries, and renewable hydrogen. Kazakhstan is actively developing renewable energy and aims to increase the share of renewables in its energy mix to 15% by 2030.
The parties also discussed the development of regional energy interconnectivity and electricity trade in Central Asia, cooperation in gas infrastructure, and Kazakhstan’s participation in regional energy projects, including the Uzbekistan–Kazakhstan–Kyrgyzstan consortium for the construction of the Kambarata hydropower plant.
Following the meeting, the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan confirmed its readiness to continue active cooperation with the European Union in implementing joint energy projects. It was noted that the decisions taken would provide additional momentum to the development of bilateral energy cooperation.
